Most of the mares at Shining
Mountain Thoroughbreds are home breds, but occasionally we acquire
a special mare for her movement, disposition and pedigree and
that attitude that says "pick me". All mares are available
for lease or foal share to approved stallions. Some mares may
also be for sale, so if one of these beautiful girls catches
your eye, please feel free to contact us.
Pixie
Dust 'Em 2006 Thoroughbred mare by Unbridled Desire
out of Laur's Dream by Known Fact. Pixie holds a special
place in my heart as she was born 6 weeks early on a night that
dipped to 22 below zero. It was a struggle to save her, but save
her we did and she has grown up to be a magnificent little mare.
Unfortunately, her curiosity about everything she sees caused
her to stick her head through a gate as a yearling, damaging
her neck and making it unlikely that she will ever be ridable,
but she will be bred for the first time this spring and we greatly
look forward to her foal's arrival. If it has half of its
dam's athletic ability, good looks and loving, good natured
personality that we so enjoy, it will be a spectacular foal indeed. CONFIRMED
IN FOAL - Pixie has recently been confirmed in foal
to LEENDERT LEOPOLD, 2008 IFSHA World Champion
Friesian Stallion - 2008 Four time IFSHA Grand National Champion
- 2008 Two time IFSHA Reserve National Champion - and FPZV Star
Stallion. This foal should have amazing athletic ability
and an elegant presence that will make it stand out in any discipline. This
will be the first Friesian sport horse to be born at Shining
Mountain, and we eagerly await its arrival in mid-April 2012.
This foal will be for sale to an approved home. In-utero
discount available.
Tilly
Manily 2005 Thoroughbred mare by Unbridled Desire out
of Waltzing Manila by Manila. Tilly is one of our home breds
that went to the track to follow in her illustrious family's
hoof prints, but, unfortunately, a chip in her knee cut her career
short. Her beautiful conformation, fabulous disposition, outstanding
pedigree, and determined, winning attitude should make her a
fantastic race or sport horse broodmare. She will be bred for
the first time in 2011. CONFIRMED IN FOAL -
Tilly has recently been confirmed in foal to PAINTING
FREEDOM, a stunning 17 hand double registered Thoroughbred
and Paint black and white overo. Painting Freedom is the
sire of Arctic Bright, an $80,000 Keeneland weanling, who has
recently been leased to REX PETERSON and is now in Hollywood
training to be the next equine movie star. Painting Freedom's
foals have fabulous dispositions, unlimited athletic ability,
and some of the most amazing color you've even seen in a
Thoroughbred. We eagerly await this foal's arrival
in early April 2012. This foal will be for sale to an approved
home. In-utero discount available.

She was kicked in the head by a warmblood mare in November of 2010. I found her unconscious on the ground with a fractured skull and choking on her tongue. She was completely blind for a week with extreme neurologic disfunction which lasted for several months, but she is now nearly completely normal with the exception of startling at sudden odd noises and a small bit of lingering vision issues. Generally A Lady is confirmed in foal to PAINTING FREEDOM, a black and white dual registered Jockey Club and APHA for a May 2012 foal.

Dream Quest was bought back and has come home to join the broodmare band at Shining Mountain Thoroughbreds due to her sale home not working out for her. This stunning 15.3 hand chestnut rubicano filly will be an outstanding addition to our colored Thoroughbred breeding program. She is from the first crop of her winning sire, Montbretia, a son of Meadowlake who is out of a stakes placed full sister to Cherokee Run. Quest's dam, Laur's Dream, a daughter of Known Fact, was placed and is from a family of multiple winners. This stunning filly is getting more and more white spots throughout her coat the older she gets and has a perfect white feather on her belly. Her beautiful color, conformation and way of moving will make her a valued addition to our band of mares. Quest will be bred to Painting Freedom, a dual registered black and white Thoroughbred and Paint in the spring of 2012.

There is also easy access to many mountain and wilderness trails as well as some fairly quiet roads that may also be explored. The indoor arena is also open to the general public for a small fee. Clinicians and groups are welcome.
